A powerful earthquake hits southern Turkey, killing thousands.

The death toll in Turkey is 2,900 and the death toll in Syria is 1,400, for a total of 4,300 deaths.

Support activities from various countries have also started, and rescue teams have been dispatched from Japan and the EU = European Union.

Syria has also suffered extensive damage, but Syria is in the midst of a civil war, and assistance from the Syrian government has not yet arrived.
