As I mentioned in the title of today's blog, do you know the name Setsuzo Kozuji?
Probably 99.9% of you don't know this.
It was a long time ago, so I can't blame you if you didn't know about it, but the truth is that I didn't know about it either.
If you are familiar with the history of the Showa era, the history of war, and the relationship between Japan and Jews, you may know about it.
Setsuzo Ogatsuji is a man who was closely related to Chiune Sugihara, who wrote visas for Jews fleeing persecution by the Nazis in Lithuania.
Sugihara's visa allowed Jews to escape from the country and after much hardship, they arrived in former Manchuria (today's northeastern China) by the Trans-Siberian Railway.
Many Jews were living in former Manchuria because of the Japanese national policy.
Mr. Ogatsuji risked his life in order to prolong the period of stay of Jews in the U.S. and other countries, since they were only allowed 10 days to leave the country via Japan.
Although he was Japanese, he was a Jew, and he knew the Jewish religion very well, so he risked his life to get Jews out of the country, and now he is resting in Jerusalem, the holy city of Judaism.
This is a very brief introduction of Mr. Kozuji.
I hope you will purchase a book about his life titled "The Man Who Connected the Visa for Life" written by Yamada Jundai, which you can read in Japanese.
He is the son of Ryotaro Sugi and was also an actor in the TBS drama "Hanzawa Naoki". I searched for him on the internet and found out that he is that actor! You will soon find out that I am a very interested in this person, Setsuzo Kozuji.
I am very interested in this Setsuzo Kozuji, and I am planning to look into his life.
As I walk through the life of this man, I am able to unravel history that we have never seen before.
There are facts that we need to know more about, even if they are not mentioned in history textbooks.
If you read this book written by Mr. Jundai Yamada, you can understand the close relationship between the Japanese and the Jewish people.
This is exactly what I mean by "scales".
